Spring Cleanup 2014

Neighbors of the Northwest Branch welcomed spring by cleaning up three sites along the Northwest Branch on April 5 and 6 as part of the Potomac and Anacostia watershed-wide cleanup. About 54 volunteers at 4 sites along the Northwest Branch and its tributaries pulled 47 bags of trash, 21 bags of recyclables, 4 tires, piping, a soggy rug, 2 bikes, a prehistoric bird, and miscellaneous metal from the banks, water, and adjacent areas. In addition, on March 28, the Green Club of Springbrook H.S. ignored the rain and filled 5 bags with trash from around the school, which sits next to the Northwest Branch stream valley. Litter they collected also included a small tire, a terracotta pot, and chunks of metal (no pictures at this time).
